Brief History of Sri Uddanda Ramachandra Theertha
Sri Ramachandra Theertha continued teaching the Dwaita philosophy. He helped the chieftain
(Palegara) of Penukonda in performing his political duties. During that time, Sri Ramachandra Theertha along with Sri Lakshmipathi Theertha of Vysaraja Mutt and Sri Vidisha Theertha of Uttaradi Mutt were doing penance on Bhramhagiri hill near Penukonda. Sri Vysaraja had established 350 idols of Lord Hanuman in the Bhramhagiri.
As monkeys (representation of Lord Hanuman) were found everywhere on the hill, the pontiffs decided not to disturb them while climbing the hill on foot. So, with their powers they used to reach the hill by flying and sitting on plantain leaves. After reaching the top of Bhramhagiri hills, they used to bath in the Bramhasarovara and do the rituals.
Sri Ramachandra Theertha is believed to keep his dhanda for vigil on the sacred box which contained the deities. So, he came to be called as Uddhanda Rama Theertha. In 1645 he made Sri Raghunatha Theertha as his successor. After some time he was immortalized near Penukonda.
